about

"Khor" is an Armenian word suggesting something "deep" or "inside," and can be associated with the 7th century monastery Khor Virap, the site of St. Gregory the Illuminator's famous dungeon imprisonment. For 13 years he was confined to darkness and our interpretation of "Khor" moves from cold darkness to intense spiritual self-reflection. It is an introspection deliberately aimed at the darker corners of our soul. We attempt to catch a glimpse of light by first immersing ourselves in darkness.

This piece was born of a bit of fun and spontaneous music making in the studio with the immensely talented vocalist Areni Agbabian. After four hours of exploring this "Khor" idea, I spent a few weeks manipulating the recordings and arrived at this piece.
